Before co-founding Carling Recruitment in 2001 with Bill Carling, Julie worked at The International Brewers Guild, building an extensive network. She continues to expand this, enabling her to identify and attract the brightest talent in the industry. She has cultivated long-term relationships with candidates, guiding and supporting many, enabling their careers to flourish. Similarly, she has developed enduring partnerships with clients worldwide, assisting them in transforming high-potential individuals into motivated, stellar-performing teams.

Penny brings a breadth of experience across HR and recruitment, having held senior roles including Director of Human Resources at Burlington Consultants, Head of Financial Recruitment at Premier Personnel, and Search Manager at Martin Ward Anderson. With extensive experience across Africa and international markets, she brings a strategic perspective and creative thinking that strengthen our approach to complex search assignments.
Consultant
After a 25-year legal career, Shaun moved into the drinks industry to pursue his passion. He holds the WSET Diploma, having completed all three levels, and brings a deep enthusiasm for wine, particularly English wine. He is actively involved promoting and supporting the growth of emerging wine markets.

A native French speaker, Laurence has over 15 years’ experience in recruitment across Pharma, FMCG, and both technical and commercial roles. She brings deep knowledge of end-to-end recruitment, including relocation and employment law, and has built a strong global network as a trusted recruiter.

Caroline is a recruitment and HR specialist with experience across legal, accounting, and IT sectors. Since joining Carling Recruitment in 2024, she has applied her expertise to engage high-calibre candidates, while rapidly developing her knowledge of the drinks industry through events and site visits.
Office Manager
Brigid is our Office Manager, providing essential administrative support to the Carling team and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations. She brings experience from the outsourcing sector, with a background in account management and marketing.
Following a distinguished career in the Army as a helicopter pilot, Bill went on to become Chief Executive of the International Brewers Guild. In 2000, alongside his future wife Julie, he identified an opportunity to establish a recruitment business focused on the brewing and distilling sectors, with particular expertise in operations and supply chain. Together, they founded The Carling Partnership.
Over the past 25 years, the business has grown into an international operation, working across the global drinks industry. Bill retired from day-to-day operations in 2020, but continues to take a close interest in the business, supporting the team and its ongoing development.
